“Team Chutney vs Team Mexican Chilli” Flavour Battle: competition rules

1. The Promoter

1.1 The promoter of this competition is Paaper Bites Garden Route (Pty) Ltd, a private company (registration number 2026/715509/07), trading as Paaper Bites ("Paaper Bites", "we", "us"), with its registered office at 158 Bergsigrylaan, Mossel Bay, Western Cape, 6520 (collection/trading address: 18A Gericke Road, Voorbaai, Mossel Bay), telephone and WhatsApp 064 517 8508, email paaperbites@gmail.com.

1.2 The competition is called the "Team Chutney vs Team Mexican Chilli Flavour Battle" (the "Competition").

1.3 By entering, you agree to these rules. You can read them free of charge at paaperbites.co.za/competition-rules, and anyone (including the National Consumer Commission) can ask us for a free copy at paaperbites@gmail.com.

2. Competition period

2.1 The Competition opens on Wednesday 21 October 2026, from the time these rules are published on paaperbites.co.za, and closes on Monday 30 November 2026 at 23:59 SAST (the "Competition Period").

2.2 Entries received before the opening time or after the closing time are not valid. Our server's time stamp (SAST) decides whether an entry was on time.

3. Who may enter

3.1 The Competition is open to natural persons who are 18 years or older, are residents of South Africa, hold a valid South African ID document, passport or permit, and have a delivery address in South Africa.

3.2 In line with CPA s36(3)(b), the following people may not enter or win:

a) directors, members, partners, employees, agents and consultants of the Promoter, or of any person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by the Promoter;

b) any supplier of goods or services in connection with the Competition, including the Promoter's appointed digital and marketing agency and its staff and contractors, the website developer and host, the prize supplier(s), the courier company delivering prizes, and the independent person overseeing the draw;

c) the spouses, life partners, business partners and immediate family members of anyone in (a) or (b).

3.3 If an ineligible person is drawn, their entry is void and a new winner is drawn.

4. How to enter

There are three ways to get entries. Route A is completely free and gives you the same chance to win per entry as any other route. Routes B and C are optional extras. No purchase is needed, and orders do not earn entries.

4.1 Route A: Free entry on the website (no purchase needed)

a) Go to paaperbites.co.za/battle.

b) Choose Team Chutney or Team Mexican Chilli.

c) Enter your first name, surname, email address, mobile number and province, and tick the box to confirm you accept these rules.

d) Each person may enter through Route A once per calendar day (SAST) during the Competition Period. Each valid daily entry is one (1) entry and also counts as a vote for your team.

4.2 Route B: Like and comment on our official Facebook competition post (optional)

a) Like and comment "CHUTNEY" or "MEXICAN CHILLI" on the official Flavour Battle competition post published on the Paaper Bites Facebook Page (facebook.com/paaperbitesmosselbay) during the Competition Period.

b) Each Facebook account gets one (1) entry per official competition post, however many times it likes or comments.

c) You do not need to like our Facebook Page, share the post, tag anyone, or post on your own or a friend's timeline or profile to enter. These actions are not required and earn no entries.

d) Your profile must allow us to send you a direct message if you win. Winners from Route B must complete the same verification as everyone else (clause 8).

4.3 Route C: Social follow bonus entries (optional)

a) Follow Paaper Bites on Instagram @paaper.bites and on TikTok @paaperbites to earn two (2) bonus entries per platform. Bonus entries are given once per person for the whole Competition, so at most four (4) in total, however often you follow, unfollow or follow again.

b) To claim them, you need at least one valid entry through Route A or Route B. Give us your Instagram or TikTok handle in the optional field on paaperbites.co.za/battle after you enter (or, for Route B, comment from the account you follow with).

c) We verify at the draw by checking the winner's handle. If a drawn entry is a Route C bonus entry and that handle does not follow the Paaper Bites account concerned at the draw, that bonus entry is void and a new winner is drawn (clause 7.3).

d) Following is optional. You do not have to follow us, like or comment on anything, or give us a handle to enter or win. The free daily entry (Route A) gives you exactly the same chance to win per entry as a bonus entry.

e) Liking the Paaper Bites Facebook Page, sharing any post and tagging friends are not required and earn no entries.

f) This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) or TikTok. By entering, you release Meta and TikTok from all liability connected with the Competition (see clause 11).

4.4 General

a) The only cost to enter is the normal cost of the internet data you use. No premium-rated SMS or other entry fee applies. Electronic entry will never cost more than R1.50, including any later messages to you about that entry (Regulation 11(1) and (2)).

b) Entries made with automated tools, bots, fake or temporary email addresses, several identities, or any form of manipulation are void, and we may disqualify everyone involved.

c) We may ask for proof of identity to check eligibility. We are not responsible for entries lost or delayed because of network, device or platform problems.

5. The team counter

5.1 The live counter on paaperbites.co.za/battle shows each team's points (1 point per valid daily vote or entry). It is for fun, is updated in close to real time and may be corrected to remove invalid or test entries.

5.2 The team with the most points at closing time is announced as the "Flavour Battle Champion". Team results do not affect who wins the prize in clause 6, which is drawn at random from all valid entries.

6. Prize

6.1 One (1) prize: a Paaper Bites merchandise hamper plus FREE Paaper Bites (quantity to be confirmed).

6.2 Delivery of the prize by courier anywhere in South Africa is at our cost.

6.3 The prize cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash. If part of the prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside our control, we will replace it with an item of equal or greater value.

6.4 Winning does not depend on any further payment or condition other than those in these rules (CPA s36(9)).

7. How the winner is chosen

7.1 After the Competition closes, all valid entries from Routes A, B and C are combined into one list, and invalid, duplicate, test and ineligible entries are removed.

7.2 The winner is drawn at random using a computerised random-selection method on Friday 4 December 2026 in Mossel Bay. The draw is conducted by the Promoter and overseen and certified by an independent accountant, registered auditor, attorney or advocate (name to be confirmed), as required by Regulation 11(5). The draw is not open to the public.

7.3 We also draw three (3) reserve winners, in order, in case the winner cannot be reached, is ineligible or does not claim.

7.4 The basis for choosing the winner is random chance. The draw result is final as far as the random selection goes. This does not limit your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.

8. Telling the winner and claiming the prize

8.1 We will contact the winner by phone, email or (for Routes B and C) direct message from the official Paaper Bites account within 2 business days after the draw.

8.2 To claim, the winner must reply within 7 days of our first contact attempt (the "claim period") and supply their full name, ID number (for our Regulation 11 records), delivery address and contact number.

8.3 If the winner cannot be reached after at least 3 attempts over the claim period, does not claim in time, or turns out to be ineligible, the prize is forfeited and goes to the next reserve winner. We will record the steps taken.

8.4 The winner will be asked to sign (or confirm electronically) that they received the prize. If that isn't possible, we keep proof of delivery.

8.5 Paaper Bites will never ask you to pay anything, or for your banking details or a one-time PIN, to claim a prize. Be careful of fake accounts copying our name. We only contact winners from our official accounts, 064 517 8508 or paaperbites@gmail.com.

8.6 The prize will be delivered within 30 days after the winner's details are confirmed.

9. Announcing the winner

9.1 The winner will be announced on Monday 7 December 2026 on paaperbites.co.za/battle and on the Paaper Bites Facebook and Instagram accounts, showing the winner's first name, surname initial and town. If a reserve winner has to be used, we will update the announcement.

9.2 We will ask the winner whether they agree to us using their photo or taking part in marketing (for example, a delivery photo or video). The winner may decline, and declining will not affect their prize (Regulation 11(3)). The winner does not have to be present at the draw or the announcement.

10. Records

10.1 We will keep the records required by Regulation 11(6) for at least three (3) years after the Competition ends. They include the Promoter's details, these rules, the offer to participate, the list of prizes, where and when the Competition was marketed, who ran the draw and who oversaw it, the basis and proceedings of the draw, the winner's name and ID number, the date the prize was handed over, proof of receipt, and the steps taken where a winner could not be reached or did not accept a prize.

11. Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok

11.1 This Competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Instagram, Meta Platforms, Inc. or TikTok.

11.2 By entering, every entrant fully releases Meta Platforms, Inc. (including Facebook and Instagram) and TikTok from any responsibility or liability connected with the Competition.

11.3 Information you give us is given to Paaper Bites, not to Meta or TikTok.

12. Your personal information (POPIA)

12.1 Who is responsible? Paaper Bites (the Promoter in clause 1) is the responsible party. Our Information Officer is Charles Muller, director, paaperbites@gmail.com, 064 517 8508.

12.2 What we collect: from all entrants, your name, email, mobile number, province, team choice and entry time; for Routes B and C, your public social-media profile name or the Instagram/TikTok handle you give us; from the winner only, their ID number and delivery address. We also save the campaign tags of the link or ad that brought you to our site (such as utm_source), and your landing page, with your entry so we can tell which posts and ads work.

12.3 Why: to run the Competition (check eligibility, count entries and votes, draw and contact the winner, deliver the prize, prevent fraud) and to keep the records the CPA requires. Our legal basis is carrying out these rules, which you accept when entering, and complying with the law.

12.4 Marketing is optional. We will only send you marketing (email, SMS or WhatsApp) if you tick the separate, unticked opt-in box on the entry form. Not opting in does not affect your entries or your chance of winning. You can opt out at any time through the link or message included in every marketing message, or by emailing paaperbites@gmail.com.

12.5 Advertising audiences. Only if you opt in to marketing, we may share your email and phone number in hashed (encrypted) form with Meta so we can show you relevant ads or exclude you from ads. Details are in our privacy notice at paaperbites.co.za/privacy.

12.6 Who else sees your data: only service providers working for us under contract (our website host and our database provider, any email or messaging provider we use, the courier for prize delivery, and the independent overseer of the draw). Some providers may store data outside South Africa. If so, we use only providers bound by laws or agreements that protect it to at least POPIA's standard (POPIA s72).

12.7 How long we keep it: entrants' data for 6 months after the Competition closes, then it is deleted or anonymised, unless you opted in to marketing (kept until you opt out). The winner's and reserve winners' records are kept for 3 years, as clause 10 requires.

12.8 Your rights: you may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or object to its processing, by emailing paaperbites@gmail.com. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.

12.9 We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your data secure.

13. General

13.1 We may change these rules, or suspend or end the Competition early, only if circumstances outside our reasonable control make that necessary (for example fraud, technical failure or a change in law). Any change will be published at paaperbites.co.za/competition-rules and will not take away a prize already won.

13.2 Except where caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and as far as the law allows, neither the Promoter nor its agencies or suppliers are liable for any loss arising from taking part in the Competition or using a prize. Nothing in these rules limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.

13.3 If one clause is found invalid, the rest of the rules still apply.

13.4 These rules are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
